There is good news: Today was so. much. better. I couldn’t continue with my live blogging because I had to leave for the first half of the day to attend an orientation with a local org. I am going to be working with this fall while the kids are in school. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to get involved with it, but the timing for the orientation wasn’t great. My husband had to take over for this final day… Read more »

We’ve been approaching potty training for about a year. It’s been quite a slow approach. It’s kind of like when you’re on a flight and you hear the pilot say, “We are now approaching our descent for landing” but it’s still 45 minutes until you land. Well, we’ve been approaching our descent for landing for awhile now, and we’ve had a lot of false starts. It’s time to land. This weekend. So this is it. I’ve read the books, I’ve… Read more »

P&G turned 2 two days ago. I’m late posting about it. It seems I’m running late with everything lately. I’ve never been someone who’s chronically late. I like to be punctual, if not early. But now with two kids in tow…I’m late. Often. I always underestimate how much time it will take for me to get the kids ready, and overestimate my ability to get them ready quickly.   Today, however, for their 2-year check-up we were early! Hooray!    … Read more »

I’m writing this as I lay in bed with a feverish child sleeping in my arms, Peppa Pig still playing on the T.V. His little (by 2 minutes) sis is stirring in her crib, letting out a sporadic croupy cough here and there. My husband is away on a business trip until tomorrow, or else I would send him in to check on our other sick little one. I often wonder how it would work to parent twins alone. Recently, I’ve had… Read more »

For several weeks now I’ve been picking my friends’ brains about potty training. It’s looming over me like a storm cloud. I don’t know why potty training is so daunting. After tackling colic, NICU stays, acid reflux, RSV and more so far, I surprised myself at how much angst I have for this upcoming challenge of transitioning out of diapers. G seems like she is about ready to be trained. She has developed a ritual around going #2 and it generally consists… Read more »

P&G are almost 18 months old and I’m starting to feel the pressure. I keep hearing that 18 months is supposed to be a big month for speech development. As we get closer and closer, though, I find myself becoming skeptical. Oh, they talk all the time. But you would need me as an interpreter to know exactly what they mean by the sounds coming out of their mouths. And sometimes, there really is no meaning. It’s just babble. We read… Read more »

We are only a few weeks into our new life in the Big Apple. Already, I’ve encountered situations that had never crossed my suburban-mom mind. Some differences are a welcomed change. I love not having to finagle the babies in and out of car seats, eliminating an inconvenient middle step to every outing. My friend Meredith texted a few days ago to lament that on the drive home from her trip to IKEA, her twins fell asleep in their carseats…. Read more »

We have a lot of activities we frequent around town. One of them is mommy and me (MoMe) yoga at We Yogis every Friday at 11:15. It’s right down the street from us, which is one of the main reasons I’ve been taking P&G to this class since they turned two months old. If you’re looking for a good workout, this is not the class for you. But, it is a super sweet class. We sing nursery rhymes and do yoga… Read more »

firstfathersday

It’s only fair, since I posted last-minute Mo’s Day gift ideas, that I continue the series with some budget-friendly Father’s Day options:   T-shirts. I know my husband loves a good casual shirt to wear on his day off. This one would be a good bet if your guy has a sense of humor. Or this one if he’s a big patriot and/or needs a cheeky Fourth of July shirt. Say it on a onesie. If you have bab(ies) at home, this onesie is… Read more »

There may be no such thing as a free lunch, but there is such a thing as a free baby class here in Dallas, and I say that’s even better. Our favorite is Baby Bounce Basics at North Park mall’s Bookmarks library. It’s awesome. The babies and I meet – and have met – good friends at this class almost every week. It takes place every Monday, Thursday and Friday at 12:30p.   Our kiddos love shaking the bell toys and waving… Read more »
